Tips to Keep Fit During the Holidays
The holidays are often a time where we can indulge a little too much or create unrealistic expectations for ourselves. So, how do you keep it health and stay fit in body and spirit?
- CONTROL YOUR STRESS: Too much stress can sometimes lead to overeating or not eating the right foods. A great way to keep stress levels in check is to get plenty of sleep at night and exercise at least 30 minutes a day. If you can’t find a 30-minute block, break it up throughout the day.
- PRACTICE MINDFUL EATING: Indulge for a night, not for a season. Stock up on healthy snacks so that you’re not tempted to partake of high-calorie items. Watch your portion sizes and eat lean meats and fish (size of your palm minus the fingers), whole grains, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid creamy sauces, refined sugars, and processed foods. Remember to hydrate. If you know, you’re going to be around parties or situations where you might be tempted, eat healthy in advance and bring a healthy dish to share the love.
- MAKE A PLAN FOR SELF-REFLECTION: You don't have to be all and do all. Do what you can and take some time for you. Take a short walk in nature. Watch a comforting film. Listen to music you love. Avoid people and places that trigger negative emotions and responses. Surround yourself with those you love and the people that love you.
