Staying Hydrated to Support Kidney Health

You are often told that you need to stay hydrated, but you don't always hear about the health risks of withholding such needed fluids for the body. The urinary system is comprised of the four major components: the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. The job of the kidneys is to filter blood and form urine in our body which is why it is so important to keep the urinary system functioning properly by drinking plenty of water. When the body becomes dehydrated, kidney stones can form as well as deposits from calcium salts or uric acid. Too much sun exposure can lead you to too much vitamin D which can also be a cause of kidney stones. To maintain healthy kidneys, you should remember to drink plenty of water!
How do you know if you're experiencing kidney malfunction?
Some common symptoms include nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. If you have lower back pain, it can also be a result of kidney malfunction. Other signs such as sweating or fever also attribute to it. If you're experiencing any of the symptoms above, it would be a good idea to contact a physician for direction and stay off the massage table in the meantime. Always remember to mention any health concerns or chronic pains to your massage therapist before treatment.
